Dr. Wadden is a Professor of Psychology at the University of Pennsylvania
School of Medicine, where he is also Director of the Weight and
Eating Disorders Program. Dr. Wadden's
research is primarily on the treatment of obesity, by interventions
that have included behavior modifications, very low-calorie diets,
exercise, and pharmacotherapy. In addition, he has investigated
the psychosocial consequences of obesity, as well as the behavioral
and metabolic effects of dieting and weight cycling. He has published
numerous scientific papers and is the co-author of two books,
Treatment of the Seriously Obese Patient (with Theodore
VanItallie) and Obesity: Theory and Therapy (with Dr. Albert
Stunkard). Dr. Wadden's research is supported by grants from the National Institutes of
Health, including NIMH Research Scientist Development Award.
