Assessment Center


The assessments in this section are designed to give you an idea about the shape you are in. If you want to visit any section other than the Information Center, fill these out first. As you complete each assessment, your results will be posted on the scoreboard at the bottom left portion of your screen.

The information gathered from the results on these tests will be used in other parts of the Fitness Center. For example, information on the Activity Level Test will be used for calculating a calorie level for you when you enter the Nutrition Center, and for calculating how many calories you burn for each activity in the Improvement Center.

There are five different assessments in this section. The approximate total time to complete the first four assessments and the paper-based Aerobic Fitness Test is 15 – 30 minutes. The time to complete the non paper-based Aerobic Fitness Test will vary from person to person. The only equipment you'll need is a yardstick and some adhesive tape for the Flexibility Test.

  • The PAR-Q test is a quick screen to test physical readiness for physical activity.

  • The Activity Level Assessment will let you know if your level of activity throughout the entire day places you in the Sedentary or Light, Moderate, Heavy or Very Heavy Activity Level. The reason we assess the Activity Level is to estimate daily calorie needs.

  • The Flexibility Test measures the range of movement you have. The range of movement is determined by the muscles and ligaments surrounding a joint.

  • The Muscular Strength and Endurance Test gives you an idea of the strength of muscles in your upper body. No one test can give you a picture of the strength all over your body. We chose this test because it can be done without equipment and without going to a fitness facility.

  • There are two tests for aerobic fitness, and you can take either one. One is a test that requires you to run, jog or walk a specific distance. The other is a questionnaire about your usual participation in fitness-enhancing activities.
