So many choices! How do I know which mix is best for me?
No matter what your health risk, your weight-loss
treatment plan should always include healthful eating and/or
a moderate deficit diet combined with increased physical
activity and lifestyle change strategies. We can’t emphasize
this enough!
The table shown above summarizes the treatment options
available to you based on your health risk.
To select the treatment plan that is right for you, you
and your doctor need to study the merits, risks, and costs
of each option for which you are eligible based on your
health risk.
Your weight-loss treatment history may also play a role
in this decision. This is because:
• Some treatment options may still be appropriate for
you because they’ve worked in the past, and you believe they
will work again.
• Some options may need to be eliminated because they
have not worked in the past and are not likely to work this
time either.
• A different form of a treatment option that you have
tried before may work this time (for example, a different
dietary or exercise approach or drug).
• An entirely new option may be a better choice for
you this time.
Be sure to tell your doctor your thoughts about any
treatment options that you think may or may not work for
you, or about any options that you do not want to
consider.
