Is there anything else I need to consider?

Yes!

Prevention of weight gain requires a lifelong commitment. While it is nice to hear positive comments from the important people in your life, these comments are likely to stop a few months after you lose weight. And if you have not lost weight but have still succeeded in preventing weight gain, you may not hear anything at all!

You are your own best source of support and encouragement. Even if you belong to a weight-loss support group, learn the support skills you need to guide yourself through problems and challenges. Learn and practice these skills day in and day out, and they will help you greatly.

Remember to recognize yourself for the steps you are taking to improve your health. Give yourself a "pat on the back" or a "pep talk."

The best friend you have is you. Don’t be afraid to encourage, praise, and support yourself!

Part IV

What happens next?

How do I select a target BMI?

How do I create an energy balance?

What lifestyle changes do I need?

What can I do to help myself succeed?

Should I still continue to see my doctor?

How can I make each visit count?

Is there anything else I need to consider?
