With 70,000 members, the ADA is the nations largest
organization of food and nutrition professionals. To be
registered, a dietitian must earn a bachelors of science degree
in dietetics or nutrition, complete an accredited dietetic
internship, and complete continuing education credits. Members of
the ADA can join more than 25 specialty practice groups,
including sports, cardiovascular and wellness nutritionists;
diabetes care education; and nutrition educators of health
professionals. Each state or region has local dietetic agencies;

nutrition counseling and seek answers to their food and nutrition
questions. Callers can listen to recorded food and nutrition
messages from registered dietitians.
Consumers can select nutrition messages in English
or Spanish from 8:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. (central time)
Monday through Friday. Messages change monthly.
Callers can receive a referral to a registered
dietitian in their area from 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.
(central time) Monday through Friday.
Callers can receive customized answers to food and
nutrition questions by calling 1-900-225-5267. The charge
is $1.95 for the first minute and $.95 for each
additional minute.
