Amino Acids
Actions/Claims:
Amino acid supplements are commonly used for building muscle. Arginine and ornithine are two amino acids that are promoted for stimulating the release of growth hormone and/or insulin. The extra boost of growth hormone and/or insulin is then
supposed to encourage muscle building.
Research Results:
Well-controlled clinical studies do not support these benefits.
Cautions:
High doses of ornithine (12 grams) may cause cramping and diarrhea.
